The User Manager is used to manage users. A user might be a simple visitor who is registered at your web site, an employee of your organization, or even you. When you create users, you assign them to groups that decide the permissions assigned to them (e.g., whether they can edit or add new articles to the web site, or only view them). With the User Manager, you can create users, delete existing users, edit user information (password, e-mail ID, group membership, etc.), block existing users from accessing the web site, and so on. The User Manager displays a list of all the current users, as shown in Figure 3-47. The table in the User Manager displays the following information:
- Username (the ID with which the user logs in).
- User status (whether the user is logged in or logged out).
- User state (whether the user is enabled or blocked).
- User group: A user can be assigned any of the groups described following. Each group has certain privileges assigned to it that define the limits or rights of the user in that The groups, in ascending order of their privileges, are as follows:
- Registered: Users of this group cannot edit or submit articles, and can access only the contents that are assigned the Registered Access
- Author: Users of this group can submit new articles, but these articles must be approved by a member of the Publisher group or higher. Users of this group cannot edit existing
- Editor: Users of this group can submit new articles or edit existing articles. The articles must be approved by a member of the Publisher group or
- Publisher: Users of this group can submit, edit, and publish
- Manager, Administrator, and Super Administrator: Users of this group can do all the previous actions, and they can also log into the back end for better control over the web
